Top six finish at Thruxton for Indy
Sixteen-year-old Indy Offer turned his season around with a stunning sixth place finish in yesterday’s ten lap British Junior Supersport Championship at the high-speed Thruxton Circuit, near Andover. Today’s second race was cancelled due to delays on track following a spill in the British Superbike Championship race.
Indy, who is racing in his first full season of BSB competition arrived at the Hampshire circuit full of confidence after impressing in a private World Supersport 300 test at the Magione Circuit in Italy. The #18 rider has had a difficult season. He was taken out in the opening round after running strongly, before a brace of hard-fought events left him scratching his head as to where his pace had gone. The answer a machine that was not fully aligned!
The bike was straightened ready for the latest round at Thruxton with immediate results…ninth in qualifying (a career best), followed by a brilliant sixth position in the weekend’s sole ten lap race underline Indy’s natural riding ability and pave the way for a front running second half of the season.
“What a weekend. Race one was really good. I ran at the front and made sure there were no gaps in the opening laps and that allowed me to go with the leading group. I got tangled a bit after a couple of laps which meant I lost contact with the group, but it was a great fight. I was really looking forward to Sunday’s race. I knew a few areas I wanted to work on but was confident. I want to say a massive thank you to everyone that is supporting me and still believed in me when we couldn’t figure out where the speed had gone. The main thing is that the bike is now straight. Before Thruxton I did a test with a World Championship team in Italy which was incredible. I learned so much and got to ride on track with some leading World Supersport 300 riders. Big thanks to them, it’s now time to focus on the next round!”
